PHLEBOTOMY
A
phlebotomist performs routine venipuncture and capillary sticks to obtain
samples for laboratory tests.
This certificate program prepares students for entry-level positions in
hospitals, clinics and other health care settings as phlebotomy
technicians. Students may enter the two-semester Phlebotomy program at the
beginning of the summer or fall semester.
Admission to the Phlebotomy curriculum is based on the successful
completion of required placement tests. Validation of current
immunizations is required upon admission to the curriculum. CPR and first
aid certification are required prior to clinical experience. Out of town
travel may be required for clinical experience. Students will be required
to have a Criminal Background Check as part of the admissions process.
The Phlebotomy program is approved by the National Healthcare Association.
Graduates of the program are eligible to take the certification exam for
certified PHL Technicians (CPT) given by the National Healthcare
Association.
