Welders use all types of
welding equipment in a variety of positions, such as flat, vertical,
horizontal and overhead. They may perform manual welding, in which the
work is entirely controlled by the welder, or semi-automatic welding, in
which the welder uses machinery (such as a wire feeder) to help perform
welding tasks. In order to perform these tasks, welders must first develop
those manipulative skills that are necessary to the welding of joints
common to all metal industries. They must also understand how to apply the
proper theories of welding, cleaning and fabrication to appropriate shop
applications.Welders generally plan work from drawings or specifications, or by analyzing damaged metal parts, using their knowledge of welding and metals. Therefore, they must know how to read blueprints and perform the mathematical functions essential to the completion of a project. OCtech’s Welding certificate program provides training in the many processes of welding and metal fabrication. From this curriculum, students will acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience for employment in welding occupations. This course is offered only in the evening and can be completed in one year. WELDING CERTIFICATE
